Meet Connie! A 59-year-old Military brat that has lived and experienced many places growing up. She believes that this life, while not always loved, helped to shape how she lives today. Family, church, and the ability to live an active lifestyle are very important to her, as well as giving back. Connie is fortunate that all 3 of her children and grandson live in Charlotte, close by. Her faith keeps her grounded and an active lifestyle includes being a lifelong runner, including a couple of marathons, and her new functional fitness class, Cross Fit. Connie also loves gardening, quilting, reading, traveling, and her longtime involvement and work with Habitat for Humanity
Connie was a high school math teacher after college and then decided to work in the home full time. As CEO of her home, (family of five) she helped run the family effectively, including all of the extra-curricular activities; church, sports, mission trips, etc. Her family has worked with Habitat for Humanity for approx. 20 years... starting with builds in Charlotte. This work also allowed her children the opportunity to see and experience giving back to others through Habitat. They have all participated on builds out of the country; including El Salvador, Ecuador, Africa, Costa Rica, the Philippines, and the Jimmy Carter build in Thailand. Connie and her husband currently do a weeklong build in El Salvador twice a year. She feels its very rewarding to meet the homeowners; whose lives you helped to change.
Current life and Chico’s: Connie started working as a part-time sales associate 9 years ago when her children left home. She likes fashion and loves helping women feel good about what they are wearing. Chico’s has done several charities over the past couple of years but Connie was thrilled to learn they were partnering with Habitat for Humanity - Women’s Build initiative, which is a build designed specifically for women. Houses built for women by women... but men can help, too. It is all about empowering women by helping them have a safe place to live. Chico’s FAS is trying to raise $ 650,000 for the Women’s Build initiative to work with 77 communities across the United States. Two communities will receive funding to build a house and the other 75 will receive $1000.00 grants towards their Women’s Build program. At the Charlotte South Park store, they are promoting the collaboration by making customers aware of the campaign. Connie took it a step further and made informational signs, brought in some Habitat shirts, tool belts, and hard hats for the mannequins, and educated her fellow associates on the importance of the effort to give fellow females a “hand up in life”. Connie believes that we don’t have to move mountains to help others, but be consistent with what we can do or give, whether it’s time, money, or talents. It all adds up for the greater good of mankind.
